Let the Adventure Begin

On Wednesday morning Marty and I headed for Miami to catch our flight to Buenos Aires, Argentina. On the way down we had to make a stop at a camera repair shop in Miami so that Marty could have some dust spots cleaned on the sensor of his new D600 and to get some missing screws replaced on his G10. I was also able to get a small clear plastic cover that I had cracked replaced on one of my wide angle zooms. The really interesting part about this experience was that it only took 90 minutes to take care of all the service items and did not cost a fortune. In any case, we headed off to a nearby Thai restaurant for a quick meal and then made our way to the airport.

Our flight was scheduled to leave at 11:55PM and was on time. The flight we were on was an American 777-200 and was quite roomy except in the economy seating area. I was quite surprised at the lack of legroom on a long haul aircraft. Of course they had the fancy sleeper seats in business and first class but not in steerage. In any case, we survived the nine hour flight and landed in Buenos Aires just a few minutes late due to Hurricane Sandy and some weather over the Amazon. As we approached the west coast of Chile we were treated to some beautiful views of the Andes mountain range.

We checked in to our hotel and then headed out to see some of the local sights. Buenos Aires is a very big city with a population of 2.5 million. The downtown areas are divided into different districts and have very Italian sounding names like Palermo, Recoleta, etc. As we strolled the areas around Florida Street it was amazing to see that many people out on the street at one time. It's spring in the southern hemisphere so the trees are just now filling out. I could not believe how many McDonalds there were in the downtown area.
